Borderway Store Cattle and Weanling Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had forward 1113 head at their Weekly Wednesday Sale of cattle, comprising of 707 Catalogued Store Cattle, Store Bulls and Stirks, 187 Dairy Cattle including the Monthly Sale for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club and the Clifton Jersey Spring Selection Sale and 219 Calves. A busy Borderway saw 188 vendors selling cattle and over 170 buyers in action ensuring an excellent days trading for all concerned.

STORE CATTLE – Yet another good entry of 412 strong forward store cattle which once again sold very well.  Top overall were two Simmental steers from M & I Ritchie, Croftheads, Annan who sold to £1480 each.  Aberdeen Angus sold to £1390 from JG Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, Carlisle and £1360 for another.  Limousin crosses sold to £1315 from G Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle.  Charolais to £1230 from M T Watson, Four O Boot and £1220 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Wood, Arnold House, Carlisle.  Black and white steers peaked at £1090 for a Holstein Friesian from TB Stamper & Son, Rose Farm, Cockermouth and also £1000 for a pen of four.

Heifers as usual were in high demand and were easily sold topping at £1405 again from JG Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, Carlisle for an Angus.  Limousin crosses to £1370 from F Thomlinson, Powe Croft, Wigton.  R Parsons, Brow Top, Maryport had two Simmental which sold at £1240.   Charolais sold to the same money with the vendors this time Mr JJ Brough, Clappers, Wigton and £1200 for another from JJ Hall Lankaber, Penrith.  Please advise entries for next week’s sale

WEANED CATTLE – A very good entry of 295 weanlings were forward with extra buyers coming to buy grazing cattle which ensured one of the dearest trade to date.  RG Hastings & Son, Auchenhill, Dalbeattie sold Simmental bulls up to £1250 and £1180 at 12 months of age.  Limousin bulls from Mr R  Graham, Hetherside, Kirklinton topped at £1110 and £1080 for 12 and 9 month old bulls.
